Biogen Idec Inc. of Cambridge, Mass., along with Elan Corp., reported to regulators two more cases of the potentially fatal brain infection PML among patients taking their multiple sclerosis drug Tysabri, the companies said Thursday.

Depomed Inc. reported net income of $3.5 million, or 7 cents a share for the second quarter, compared to a loss in the same period last year of $9 million, or 20 cents a share. (DEPO)

The National Institutes of Health awarded $128 million to a University of South Florida research team conducting worldwide studies on the prevention and treatment of juvenile diabetes. Jeffrey Krischer is leading the USF research team.

HIV drug maker Gilead Sciences Inc. added Richard Whitley, M.D., a University of Alabama professor, to its board of directors. (GILD)

Ore Pharmaceuticals Inc. has acquired a drug compound from Roche that it plans to take as its second candidate into clinical trials. (ORXE)
