Tripos Inc.'s $2 million deal to sell its Discovery Research unit to Provid Pharmaceuticals Inc. has fallen through due to financing issues, the company said Monday. Despite the problem and having pursued preliminary discussions with other interested parties, Tripos said it is willing to renegotiate the terms with Provid.

Neonode Inc., the Swedish company merging with SBE Inc., said Monday it has appointed Mikael Hagman as president and chief executive officer.

Xoma Ltd. said Monday that its president, CEO and chairman, Jack Castello, will retire as soon as a replacement is hired.

Researchers at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill say studies of breast cancer therapies that are funded by the pharmaceutical industry are more likely to report positive results than studies paid for by non-pharmaceutical organizations.

University of South Florida's signature program for cardiovascular research will receive $812,000 from the Walter L. and Phyllis W. Mason Trust.
